May Food Favourites & Home Things (Days 295 & 296)

May food favourites copy

Due to a change in lifestyle, I’ve been exploring foods that I don’t usually eat and prepare. For example, did you know you can cook sweet potato in the microwave in only 5 minutes? I can honestly say that the above four ingredients have been consumed by me almost every day for the past few weeks. As I stated in a previous post, I like using sweet potato as a topping for kale salad. (Tip: adding raisons makes it extra delicious!) I’ve also been using flax seed in my cereal and oatmeal and I use honey to sweeten my breakfast meals. I also like to eat a banana every morning.

As well, I’ve  been trying to liven up my life by purchasing more plants. The little guy down below is my first purchase. A “Pachira Aquatica” also known as a Money Tree! They are supposed to bring good fortune and good luck!

I’ve also purchased three air plants from a local seller and I can’t wait to incorporate those into my bedroom decor. I bought this air plant holder off of Etsy and I also found this old candle stick holder (below) at Goodwill for a dollar. Hopefully it will fit the other two air plants perfectly!

I can’t wait to show you the finished photos! Have a good weekend!

March Favourites! (Day 252)

IMG_8564

1. Dancoly: Angel En Provence Shampoo in Grapefruit Straighten

This shampoo is meant for straight hair and is supposed to restore hair back to it’s “natural PH” balance. My hair has been extremely staticky these past couple of months (as it gets every winter) and so I wanted to switch to a shampoo that wouldn’t strip my hair of it’s natural oils. This shampoo made my hair infinitely less staticky and it makes my hair feel fresh and clean. My hair has been naturally straight for most of my life but when I let it naturally dry in the summer months, it gains a lot of nice waves. So I am just hoping that this shampoo doesn’t totally erase those natural waves I love in the warmer months. But who knows, maybe I’ll have finished it before it starts to get warmer here.

2. Dancoly: Angel En Provence, Grapefruit Purified Soften Spray

This spray came with the aforementioned shampoo. At first I was hesitant about it because I figured that the grapefruit in it would make my hair dry. I was totally wrong! This stuff makes my hair soft, adds moisture and it makes my hair immensely easier to brush after I get out of the shower. Love it!

3. Tom’s Of Maine Long Lasting Deodorant in Fresh Apricot

I featured an unscented Tom’s deodorant in a previous favourites and I must say, I like this apricot one so much more! The scent is amazing and the formula is indeed long-lasting.

4. So Susan Water-Based Pure Luminizer

I received a full-sized sample of this product in a Topbox, a Canadian beauty subscription box. I love getting the boxes in the mail because I love getting mail and they showcase some really lovely brands. I don’t think this product is natural but it is cruelty-free!

5. Desert Essence Daily Essential Moisturizer for Normal Skin, With Jojoba and Aloe Vera

In the summer, I bought this moisturizer on a whim and didn’t really like it at first. It definitely works magic on my skin in the winter, particularly because the colder months completely dry my skin out. I will try using it again this spring and summer but am hesitant about it breaking me out. Maybe, for me, it’s a seasonal product.

6. Revlon Curling Wand

Yes, I know what this looks like in the photo, but let’s ignore that. -After growing my hair out (I had short hair for six years), I needed to learn how to style it. I’m not the type of person who loves to spend a lot of time getting ready in the morning so I was really interested in buying a curling wand with a semi-large barrel. I soon realized that curling wands are hella expensive and I decided to browse the wands available at Target. I found this one for about 30 dollars and it works really well! The wand actually retracts into the handle so it’s perfect for travel and the handle is a matte black so it feels and looks sort of fancier than it actually is. I tried looking online to get the actual name of the wand but I can’t find it anywhere. I bought it around christmas and the packaging was somewhat holiday themed so they may not have it in stock anymore!

Do you have any favourite beauty products from this month? If so, let me know! :)

January Favourites (Day 189)

IMG_8206-2

January isn’t my favourite month. Although it marks the beginning of a new year, January symbolizes the end of the Christmas holidays. This is coming from a person who has always preferred to leave Christmas decorations up until March. I have trouble letting go, okay?

The only good thing about January is that the very last day (the 31st) marks the anniversary of my birth. I’m not one for celebrating birthdays, but that day at least gets me through a month of snow and cold.

Anyways, here are my favourites for the month of January. They are mostly healthy and semi natural.

1. Tarte Amazonian Clay Matte Waterproof Bronzer (in Park Ave Princess)

IMG_8212

This is the first bronzer I’ve ever purchased so obviously I wanted to buy something a little more natural. There are so many things I would like from the Tarte makeup line but due to the prices of the products, I’ll have to hold out. I really like this bronzer so far. It definitely gives my face the warmth it yearns for in the winter months.

2. Tom’s Natural Cleansing Mouthwash

I’m on my second bottle of this stuff. It’s alcohol-free and only has 8 ingredients. Definitely a step up from the more chemical-laden mouthwashes on the market.

3. Rocky Mountain Soap Company Body Butter (in Lemongrass)

The packaging. Oh, the packaging. (It’s to die for.) I always hate applying body lotion because it is so time consuming and inconvenient. This month I realized that I desperately needed to start moisturizing and luckily my roommate bought me this little guy for Christmas. Since it’s in a deodorant-style package, you simply have to swipe this on any dry area and you’re done! You don’t even really need to rub the product in. It’s quick and easy and I will definitely purchase this for myself in the future. (It even claims to be 100% natural!)

4. Gin Gins Ginger Caramel Candy

I mentioned these candies in my travel essentials post. They ease my stomach and help lessen my acid reflux. Plus they taste delicious. Like a ‘healthy’ delicious.

5. Caudalie Grape Water

I’ve been wanting this product for a while. It’s so simple but it feels amazing on the skin. It’s also one of the least expensive items that Caudalie sells. There are only three ingredients in this product so I feel good about putting it on my skin. I like to use it to set my makeup (especially when I’m wearing foundation or powder). Sometimes makeup tends to dry out my skin and this product completely counteracts any drying.

November Favourites! (Day 130)

My deepest apologies for not posting an October favourites! Here’s what I’ve been loving this month. I’ve had some of these items for awhile, but I’ve only really started loving them recently. From left to right:

1. Pacifica Hawaiian Ruby Guava Roll-On Perfume

Kate and I did an “all natural beauty swap” a while back and I bought her a few things, including this perfume. I loved the scent so much but it has been completely sold out in the city where we live. Luckily, I was able to pick it up while we were in Toronto. This scent is definitely more summery but it smells so good that I have to wear it in the winter too.

2. Cake Satin Sugar Volumizing Dry Shampoo Spray

This dry shampoo smells like a cupcake and it’s free from a variety of harsh chemicals. It’s not the best dry shampoo I’ve used but it’s still my favourite since it’s more natural than others I’ve tried. My hair is straight and fine so I find that it works best on second day hair, and for me, it doesn’t work on third day hair. This dry shampoo is great for volumizing though, and it leaves no white residue. Those with curly hair would probably really love it.

3. Aubrey Organics Vegecol Soothing Mask

I bought this mask in the summer but it’s extra delectable in the winter time. Perfect for relaxing dry, sensitive skin. As well, the mask contains oatmeal, so when you wash it off, it gently exfoliates.

4. Four O’Clock Banana Cinnamon Spice Tea

I don’t usually like artificial banana flavours but this tea is amazing. It tastes like Christmas!

What “natural” products have you been loving this month? I would love to know!

September Favourites (Day 73)

This post is five days overdue but I figured it was better late than never. This month, my favourites are a little all over the map. Some of the things are natural beauty products and some of the stuff is more practical.

1. Desert Essence Organics: Spicy Vanilla Chai Body Wash

For me, this body wash is a no brainer, considering how much I love chai tea. In the shower, this product smells like you’re lathering chai tea all over your body. For some, that concept might be gross. For me, it’s delightful.

2. Novel: Half-Broke Horses, by Jeannette Walls

I am a huge fan of The Glass Castle (it’s my favourite book) so I decided to try this book by the same author. It’s not marketed as a memoir or biography but the entire book is based on her grandmother’s life. I finished it early this month and recommend it to anyone!

3. Physician’s Formula Organic Wear Mascara

Not all of the Physician’s Formula products are natural, but apparently, this mascara is. All the beauty gurus on Facebook raved about it, so I had to try it. Turns out I love it!

4. Tom’s Naturally Dry Antiperspirant

For I while I was looking for a natural deodorant because I was paranoid of the chemicals in regular deodorant, and I read numerous studies about how they may cause cancer etc. I tried a natural deodorant that I bought off Etsy, and it didn’t work for me, so I decided to buy this guy. The only kind they had in stock was “unscented” and I was a little wary of that, as I have only used scented deodorants in the past. It works great though, and the scent thing is totally not an issue! Once your body becomes accustomed to a more natural deodorant, it works as well as any other brand.

5. Cinnamon Sticks

This is sort of a random favourite but I’ve been obsessed with putting cinnamon sticks in my tea! I remember past holidays where vats of hot apple cider were served, filled with delicious spices like cloves and cinnamon sticks. The spicy favours and aromas of fall just get me in the mood for the holidays.

Stress-free ‘Beauty’ Things – August Favourites (Day 29)

Cats and lipstick- my life is complete.

I really, really, really enjoy putting on make-up & buying beauty products. Sometimes I enjoy typical consumeristic things, but I prefer not to be ignorant or hasty when I purchase something. I also always do research on products before I buy them. Green and ‘natural’ products have been my new craze. They are not only better for your body but can also help ease anxiety (if your as worried about chemicals as I am). So for all of you other make-up lovers/anxious people, here are my August ‘natural’ beauty faves (I am thinking of making this a monthly thing, you dig?).

1. Fat & The Moon, Lip & Cheek Stain

Something throws me off about powdery blushes so I wanted to try a cream blush. After browsing Etsy, I came upon this guy. It’s not a cream blush but it’s even better. I don’t use it on my lips but I love it on my cheeks. Note that the colour is much lighter than displayed in the photo!

2. Jason, Soothing 98% Aloe Vera

I wanted to buy 100% aloe vera but my health store only seemed to have this in stock. I saw online that Aloe is good for reducing scarring and spots so I bought this with the intention to use it as a nightly moisturizer. I love it!

3. Thayers, Cucumber Witch Hazel Toner w/ Aloe

I didn’t realize that this product would be life-changing when I bought it. There were a variety of types to choose from (it was between the cucumber and the rose toner, for me) but I chose the cucumber version because I have sensitive skin. It is literally magic. I use it on my face with a cotton pad after I cleanse my face and follow up with a moisturizer. It has improved my skin tremendously! I loved it so much that I bought my mom the rose version.

4. Lagona Naturkosmetik Lipstick (03)

I only ever wear red lipstick and I love this one. It’s a bit pricey, but I have loved this company since buying their foundation (below).

5. Lagona Naturkosmetik Natural Finish Foundation (02 Light Beige)

This product is expensive but feels so good on the skin. It doesn’t feel like make-up at all (I hate that cakey feeling some foundations have). The only downside to this product is that they only appear to have three different colours. Either I’m lucky, or their formulation is adaptable to different skin tones; the 02 foundation blends perfectly with my skin.

I hope some of you enjoyed this post! If you have a favourite product, let me know!
