Work can be stressful. If I didn’t have health anxiety, I think I would be an amazing busybody; I am a fast-paced, quick learner. Sometimes work triggers my anxiety, though I have found that the more jobs I have that challenge my hypochondria, the more I can work past it.
Last summer I worked at an auto-parts plant. Luckily, I found myself in the HR department but I still walked the floor more than a couple times a day. Sometimes, the plant would glow a blue smoggy colour due to the heat and the machines. I hated breathing this in. At first I tried to hold my breath but the size of the factory prohibited this. So eventually, I became accustomed to the toxins I was breathing in (they were ‘safe’ by factory standards).
My current job is in food services. Should be easy, right? A couple of things have freaked me out since I started working there. We have to bleach the cutting boards and use harsh chemicals and sanitizer. But the more I work there, the more I become accustomed to it all.
